Students, parents revel In Davebrook’s maiden inter-house sports competition

It was an exciting time for students, staff and parents of Davebrook Schools, Makogi, as the eight-year-old college held its maiden inter-house sports competition at Mountain Top University playground, Magboro, Ogun State.

The one-day sports fiesta was well attended by parents and guardians, with elementary and secondary students showcasing their sporting talents to the admiration of guests.

It was in a friendly atmosphere filled with grandeur and excitement that the athletes took to the track to battle for the coveted trophy.

Presentation by the taekwondo and ballet teams also added some glamour to the occasion as the guests were treated to a beautiful display of skills by the students.

The day began with the colourful march past from the participating houses – Yellow (St John), Blue (St James), Green (St Andrew) and Orange (St Peter) – with the teams showcasing the rich-culture of Nigeria.

The march past was followed by sprint events and the invitational relay.

From the march past, it was clear that Green House was in for business, as the house was adjudged the best team in the event, but the track events saw healthy rivalry among the three leading houses -Green, Yellow and Orange, as they garnered 10 gold medals each.

The technical crew had to rely on the number of silver medals to be certain of picking the overall champion.

At the end of their collation, Green House, again, showed class with 10 gold, 12 silver and six bronze medals to be crowned the first winner of the maiden inter-house sports competition.

Orange House settled for second place with 10 gold, nine silver and 14 bronze medals, while Yellow House came third with 10 gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals.

It took parents and guardians time to console disappointed members of Blue House, who finished fourth with eight gold, nine silver and eight bronze medals.

According to Director of the school, Oluwaseun Adesida, parents and guardians’ enormous support contributed to the success of the tournament. He called on the students to embrace sports, saying the school has been working hard to promote healthy rivalry among the students through sporting activities.
