Despite their recent run of good form in international friendlies, the Super Eagles did not gain anything in the latest FIFA Ranking ranking. Rather, the three-time African champions dropped one step in the rankings released yesterday.

Nigeria were forced to a 1-1 draw by third-ranked Brazil in an international friendly early this month in Singapore. The draw came a little after Nigeria’s 2-2 ending with Ukraine in another international friendly in Dnipro.

But in the new ranking released yesterday, the Super Eagles dropped from 34th to 35th, but they maintained their third position in Africa.

Senegal and Tunisia are still Africa’s first and second-placed teams respectively.

Nigeria’s opponents in the forthcoming African Nations Cup qualifying series, Benin Republic and Lesotho are ranked 82nd and 138th in the world.

Nigeria will host Benin at home on November 14 and travel away to Maseru five days later for the game against Lesotho.

Belgium still lead the pack, while world champions France and Brazil maintained second and third positions respectively. England and Uruguay make up the top five teams in the world.
The next FIFA rakings will be released on November 28.
