After losing the first leg of their friendly match 1-0 at the weekend, the Super Falcons will seek victory today (Tuesday) when they face Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses at Yaounde’s Military Stadium.
Both sides are preparing for this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The reigning African champions lost 1-0 in the first encounter on Saturday after Yvana Mbomezomo’s added-time strike beat debuting goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor.
Despite conceding late, Erhabor impressed with a composed performance in her first outing for Nigeria.
Second-half substitutes Joy Omewa, Precious Christopher, Folashade Ijamilusi, Esther Onyenezide and Michelle Alozie pressed for an equaliser, but Cameroon goalkeeper Ange Bawou held firm to secure the win.
Coach Justin Madugu is expected to adjust tactics and personnel for today’s clash. Nigeria, which defeated Cameroon 1-0 in the final of the 2016 Women’s AFCON under Coach Florence Omagbemi, will be determined to respond today.
Africa’s top goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, may return to the starting lineup, with Alozie likely to feature from the onset.
Oluwatosin Demehin, Osinachi Ohale and Glory Ogbonna are options in defence, while Onyenezide, Christopher, Ucheibe, Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene and Jennifer Echegini remain available in midfield.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Gift Monday, Rinsola Babajide, Chinwendu Ihezuo, and Ijamilusi provide attacking choices as Nigeria look to end the two-match series on a high.
The Lionesses, who will face Ghana, Mali and Cape Verde in Group D at the Women’s AFCON, used Saturday’s win as a confidence boost, while Nigeria will aim to reassert their dominance in today’s return fixture.
