SuperSport’s Let’s Play initiative returns in Akwa Ibom
The sleepy town of Mkpatak in Mkpatak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State came alive on at the weekend when SuperSport’s development programme, Let’s Play, held in the city.
The football event, which held at Top Faith International Secondary School, Uyo, made it the second time SuperSport would be holding the initiative in the state.
Over 200 primary and secondary students aged between eight and 13 years across the local government were taught the importance of regularly engaging in sporting activities while getting educated.
General Manager, SuperSport West Africa, Felix Awogu, said SuperSport believes in physical development programmes that will prepare young African children for the future.
“We are pleased with the turnout for the training sessions. The level of interest and enthusiasm displayed by the kids show that we have been able to connect with them today,” Awogu said
He revealed that the Let’s Play initiative has now been activated in over 1000 schools across Nigeria with three different sports; Rugby, Cricket and Football.
Present at the event was the Commissioner for Education in Akwa Ibom State, Akpan Amiekans, who thanked SuperSport for bringing such a laudable project that aims to develop sports in the state.
He also expressed his delight at the presence of former Super Eagles footballer and Let’s Play Ambassador, Victor Ikpeba, who met with the students during the session, noting that these students had previously only heard about him and his contributions to the game of football in the country and meeting him would remain evergreen in their memory.
Proprietor and Chairman, Governing Council of Top Faith International School, Dr. Emmanuel Thomas Abraham, echoed similar sentiments and urged the students to emulate the soccer star both in sports and education. He thanked SuperSport officials for honoring their invitation to have the event in their school.
