Ubah dismisses reported crisis in Anambra FA

Vice Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association, Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, has dismissed reports that the soccer governing body is engulfed in leadership crisis. However, he admits that some stakeholders’ interest in the body has been misunderstood by some members.

According to Ubah, the new Anambra State FA board, which has Mike Umeh, as the chairman, is poised to reposition the moribund association with activities that would bring the state back into national reckoning.

Speaking on the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) not to recognize the new FA board, leading to the suspension of the state’s FA Cup final earlier billed for last Saturday, Ubah said, “there was an election in Anambra State FA and Chief Mike Umeh is the chairman and I am his vice. There is no other motive behind our taking part in the administration of football in the state. It is all about football and also the youths of Anambra State and Nigeria.

“Let’s leave the rest of the story and enjoy the game. Anambra has not had it rosy in football in the past because we could not get that support from our past government. I am here to make a mark and prove that we can sustain a football club in the state. With my involvement in football administration in the state, I want to prove that the state can also comfortably run a football club that will return the state to limelight.

“I have always been involved in the national teams, even though I am not always visible in their events,” Ubah noted.

He also disclosed that his taking over of former Gabros of Nnewi was an opportunity for him to provide jobs for Nigerian youths, stressing that it has always been his desire to keep the youths busy in any form he can.
