Unstoppable Banwo/Ighodalo leads seven others to quarterfinals
The firm of Banwo/Ighodalo, which has won all its six matches at the on-going Bankole Olumide Aluko (BOA) Lawyers League, will lead seven other teams to this weekend’s quarterfinals of the competition holding at the Astroturf 2000, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The teams have been divided into two groups and Banwo/Ighodalo, which is leading Group B with 18 points, will vie for the semifinals ticket alongside the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Aluko & Oyebode, as well as Tokunbo Orimobi.
To vie for the semifinals ticket in Group A are Olisa Agbakoba, Babalakin & Co., Probitas/B. Ayorinde and Tayo Oyetibo/Bayo Osipitan. According to the organisers of the league, the quarterfinal fixtures have been selected by matching the winner of Group A against the last qualifier in Group B, while Group B champion plays the last qualifier in Group A.
The quarterfinal matches will hold this Sunday, while the semifinal games will come up on May 17, just as the final will hold on May 24. At the games played last weekend, Banwo/Ighodalo maintained its stranglehold on Group B by beating Tokunbo Orimobi by 2-1.
Banwo/Ighodalo is the only team in the competition with a 100 per cent records as it has won all its six games to top the log with 18 points. It is followed in second spot by Lagos Ministry of Justice (LSMJ), which has 13 points from six games, with Aluko & Oyebode third on 12 points.
Tokunbo Orimobi, Rickey Tarfa, Advocaat and Pinheiro & Co. are fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively with eight, four and one point. In other Group B games of the weekend, LSMJ bashed Pinheiro & Co 5-1 and Advocaat beat Rickey Tarfa 2-0. There was a change of guards in Group A, where Olisa Agbakoba has taken over the leadership from Babalakin & Co. although both are on 12 points. Probitas/B.
Ayorinde held Olisa Agbakoba to a 1-1 draw, while Babalakin beat UUBO 3-1, with Aelex beating Olajide Oyewole by a lone goal. In third place in Group A is Probitas/B. Ayorinde, which is on 11 points, with Tayo Oyetibo (10 points) in the fourth position. Aelex (5 points), Olajide Oyewole (4 points) and UUBO (2 points) are placed fifth, sixth and seventh on the log.
