AdekuoroyeNIGERIA’S hope of winning a medal in wrestling at next year’s Olympics in Rio, Brazil, may be in jeopardy as the India High Commission in Abuja, refused the nation’s prospect, Odunayo Adekuoroye, visa for a Pro-Wrestling League in India.

Adekuoroye, who won bronze medal at this year’s Senior World Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada, was scheduled to travel tomorrow for the pro-league, which kicks off on December 10 till 27.

Speaking to The Guardian yesterday on the trip to India by Adekuoroye, her coach, Purity Akuh, said: “Adekuoroye is to attend a pro-league tournament in India and we were at the embassy on Friday for the visa but we are yet to finalise it. We are having issues with the issuing of visa by the High Commission. Maybe by Monday everything would have been sorted out.

“We contacted the organisers and they promised to take action on it. So, we are waiting to see the outcome. The organisers sent the travel tickets, but because of the visa problem, I do not think we are going to make it. Let us see what will happen on Monday.”

Adekuoroye has however said that she might not be making the trip to the 2015 Copa Brazil Cup. “I will not be going to Brazil since the India’s Pro-league will be starting almost the same time,” she clarified.
