The Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Deji Tinubu, said on Sunday that the state would build on the lapses of the last Access Bank Lagos City Marathon in hosting future editions.

Apart from building on the lapses, there will be innovations that will involve more people of the state in the race, Tinubu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, while reviewing developments at the maiden marathon staged by Lagos State.

He said that the lessons from it would make for a better hosting as the race had become a yearly competition.

First of all, Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, has confirmed that the race an annul competition, and we are already excited about hosting the 2017 edition because 2016 showed us more that we can build upon.

We had lapses in some places and there were some incidents that we did not envisage, all those things will get us fully prepared.

Another thing is that it opened our eyes to many other things that we can incorporate into the marathon, so, we are quite excited
about the next year’s competition.

There are lot of things we have already listed for next year’s competition which will involve the people of Lagos more,’’
he said.

Tinubu disclosed that the last marathon was hugely successful in spite of the lapses owing to the large turnout of marathoners for the
competition.

We are delighted that over 20, 000 people came out to run which is amazing; also we are delighted that people lined up the streets to cheer the marathoners.

From this feat, we want to go to the next stage where all these people would be in one way or the other involved in the next marathon.

I will not like to disclose other things this early, but there are a lot of things that will involve more people of Lagos in the race,’’ he said. (NAN)
