Wolves hail Uduaghan after triumph

Wolves triumphed 1-0 against MK Etancheite in the Democratic Republic of Congo to complete a 3-1 aggregate triumph in the last-16 tie.

Governor Emmanuel UduaghanWarri Wolves hailed the governor of Delta State, Emmanuel Uduaghan after reaching the CAF Confederation Cup play-offs this weekend.

Wolves triumphed 1-0 against MK Etancheite in the Democratic Republic of Congo to complete a 3-1 aggregate triumph in the last-16 tie.

The lone second-leg goal at Stade Tata Raphael in Kinshasa came on 72 minutes when Oghenekaro Etebo finished a sweeping movement.

It was the fifth win in six Confederation Cup matches this season for unbeaten Warri, who face a CAF Champions League last-16 loser in the play-offs.

Wolves officials and players dedicated the Kinshasa victory to the governor.

He bankrolled the trip to central Africa for the cash-strapped club and also paid part ot the salary arrears of the squad.

“We are very grateful to the governor for bailing us out by providing the funds for the trip,” said Warri official Davidson Owumi.

“He also made available money to pay part of the salaries owed to the players.

“This motivated the boys and we dedicate our victory to the governor.”

Wolves eliminated Burkinabe Bobo and Ethiopians Dedebit in previous rounds and will feature in the play-offs for the first time after two second-round exits from the competition.

Tunisians Club Africain also reached the play-offs after following up a draw against ASO Chlef in Algeria by winning the return match 1-0 at Stade El Menzah.

Imed Meniaoui was a constant threat to the visitors and scored the match-winner two minutes before half-time in Tunis.
