Wrestling federation promises medals
THE Secretary General of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Segun Oguntade, has doused the fears of Nigerians over the federation’s preparations for both the All Africa Games (AAG) and the Olympic Games’ qualifiers.
Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, Oguntade said all the wrestlers needed for the competitions were in camp already, adding, “We are doing everything possible to ensure that we performed well at both the All Africa Games and the African Championships. And I will want to say here that the African Championship is one of the Nigeria Olympic Committee’s priorities.”
Oguntade hinged the federation’s optimism that the athletes would do well at both championships on “the quality of athletes we have. We have 24 events to vie for, including the Men’s Free Style, Women’s Free Style and the Greco Roman.”
Although Oguntade was not sure if his federation would embark on a training tour before the All Africa Games and the Olympics qualifiers, he said: “The All Africa Games is the business of the government, but I believe the NOC is planning tirelessly to ensure that we participated well at both events.”
