In the year 2001, and after four good years at Swedish side Malmo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his first move abroad, joining Ajax in an 8.2 million Euro transfer. It has been a rollercoaster for the talented and controversial forward ever since, playing for some of the biggest clubs in the world while retaining his iconic adoration at his boyhood team. However, 23 years later, this swansong is coming to an end soon, and a return to Malmo for a nostalgic reunion is not out of the question. This is even after some questions were raised as Ibrahimovic invested in a rival club earlier, and made comments that didn’t go down well with Malmo supporters.

At the top
At 41 years, Zlatan is still playing at the topmost level, currently with Italian giants AC Milan, though his time at the club has been marred by injuries. His earlier attempt to return to international football was also deterred by injury but any time he has been fit, the Swede has always shown he has the potential to compete with the younger folks, at the highest level. Most of the players Ibrahimovic played with, or against, are now retired and forgotten.

Some have gone into management, but the Malmo legend is still doing his thing at the top most level. Having had stints in France, England, Spain and Italy, a final bow for his boyhood club, in the Swedish league, seems the next possible destination.

In 2020, as his time in the MLS came to a close, Ibrahimovic seemed inclined to a move back to Sweden, and Malmo. He even hinted at it, stating that the door at his boyhood club has never been shut on him. However, when an announcement to that effect was expected, a swift turn of events saw the big forward return to Italy to sign for AC Milan for his second stint at the club.

Good start
Very few believe Ibrahimovic will bow out silently, especially after playing in the MLS then signing for a Champions League team. Malmo fits the bill well and a good start to the Swedish season will be a big reason to convince Ibrahimovic. They are unbeaten so far and remain a good option when seeking a befitting offer to go with your first stake when betting on Bet365, to activate the bonus code on SOSwedden’s detailed review of bet365 for Netherlands users.

A man who has featured for Barcelona, PSG, Ajax, Inter Milan and AC Milan, it is clear there is one title that Ibrahimovic has badly wanted, which could inform all these moves; the UEFA Champions League. he couldn’t help much to win titles at international level, but at least at club level he tried it all.

Maybe it is time to call it quits when he still has the legs to feature for his home team for a befitting bow and a testimonial thereafter. This season, Ibrahimovic has struggled with injury, starting just once in the four league matches he has played. He couldn’t do much either as his AC Milan side was dumped out of the Champions league at the semis stage by arch rivals Inter Milan.
