In his opening remarks, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, Obi of Onitsha who is also LIMCAF patron mentioned three reasons why he is in love with the project. “This festival, since inception nine years ago, has fostered accessibility to arts by all and sundry, not just the elite. Dispatch to all corners of the country through its zonal exhibitions in 11 cities, while attracting more support for creative enterprise, thereby empowering the young ones.”

He described LIMCAF as most sustaining arts event in the country having clocked nine this year, and he prayed the festival continue to grow from strength to strength.

While congratulating the winners, Obi emphasised that “participation is more important than winning.” He disclosed plans to build museum and inaugurate a yearly arts event in Onitsha.
The chairman of LIMCAF Board, Elder Kalu U. Kalu, expressed joy that the festival has become an annual art pilgrimage to Enugu. “In particular, it is always the greatest pleasure to see the eager young faces of our young artists who gather at this their own special ‘thing’ not just as contestants but more especially as aspiring young professionals in training. They come here every year surely to expand their vision through interaction with the older and wiser generations and to test their talent in a conducive atmosphere against those of their peers as well as superiors.”

What gladdened the heart of Elder Kalu was the growth in the list of prize endowments in various categories to encourage the young and upcoming artists.
“I am particularly pleased therefore to welcome the latest of such persons in the person of Ms. Anne Okigbo, daughter of one of the great patrons of the arts, the late Dr. Pius Okigbo CON who has now endowed a prize in honour of her very distinguished late father.

The prize has come to swell the growing list of such endowments from distinguished persons which began in 2010 with the one dedicated to the memory of the late Jurist, the Hon. Justice Anthony Aniagolu, JSC also donated by his daughter, Chief Lorretta Aniagolu and another for the best in the LIMCAF pan-African Photography Contest, Photo Africa by Mr. Tayo Adenaike, a contemporary artist and advertiser.”
The Board chairman expressed optimism that the list would continue to grow as the festival grows in stature and inclusiveness.
