Spirit of Lagos Deepens Campaign On Behavioural Change
AS part of efforts to restore the lost glories of Lagos, Mr. Olaniyi Omotoso, the Project Director, Spirit of Lagos, a non-political, non-religious organisation has urged Lagosians to imbibe attitudinal change that will bring about rapid societal development.
He said this as the group embarks on its state-wide campaign tagged, Do The Right Thing to sensitise the people of Lagos on the need to do things that align with societal development like keeping their environment clean, paying their taxes, not dashing through the express roads where there are pedestrian bridges and effectively participating in the process of governance by collecting their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) and peacefully casting their votes for candidates of their choice in the forthcoming general elections.
Omotoso said that the principles of the organisation lies on its four cardinal points, which are social justice, citizenship, good neighbourliness and civic responsibility, saying that the ‘Do The Right Thing’ campaign is in tandem with civic responsibility which reminds people that they all have a part to play in developing and sustaining our communities and public service.
In his words: “We have taken the behavoural change campaign into the streets because the responsibility of evolving a Lagos we can truly be proud of is in our hands. We also want to subtle and steadily build love for environment in the minds of people of Lagos. Once they love their environment, they do all to make it conducive to live-in in their own little way.”
Speaking on the forthcoming elections, he urged Lagosians to be armed with their PVC and not any dangerous weapons as violent breeds anarchy in any society. He added that PVC is their power to achieve their desires.
“As the elections are around the corner, the people need to collect their PVCs and vote according to their consciences, and not along their primordial or parochial sentiments. The people of Lagos must be actively involved in the process of electing those who will be in positions of authority. It is part of their civic responsibility,” Omotoso said.
The team has so far visited Oshodi Market, Agege Pen Cinema, Oyingbo market, Badagry, Mushin market, Ojodu Berger, Ijesha Bus Stop, Pako-Aguda, Festac, Ajegunle, Oke Ira in Ogba and Okokomaiko among many other places with the message of attitudinal and behaviourial change.
