CLOSE-UP Nigeria during the week partnered with Rise Networks to mark this year’s United Nations International Youth Day.
Held at the Multipurpose Hall of University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, the theme of the event was Youth Civic Engagement: The Significant Role Of Youth In Politics And Public Life.
Speaking at the event, Category Manger, Oral Care, Unilever, Bunmi Adeniba, said: “The youths need to take their place in the affairs of the state, in changing the dynamics of a country aspiring for change.”
Advising the youths to take advantage of the opportunities created for them to grow and also to make the country’s economy bigger, Adeniba disclosed that there are many Nigerian youths, who are very creative, but do not have access to platforms that can make their creativity to thrive. She urged the youths to develop the consciousness that they can be anything they want to be.
One of the highlights of the event was a debate on ‘My Political Party’s Policy On Youth Inclusion In Governance And Politics Is The Best For Nigeria,’ between the acting president of APC young women’s forum and member APC board of trustees, Rinsola Abiola and the volunteer secretary, Rethink Nigeria, a PDP affiliated youth group, Anthony Ehilebo. The debate was intense and captivating.
