The management of Mushin Local Government, Lagos State has issued a stern warning to traders operating at the Aguiyi Ironsi International section of the popular Ladipo market, to avoid any form of leadership crisis that will breach the peace of the area.

The council, also distanced itself from plans to postpone or stop election of new executives of the Aguiyi Ironsi Traders Association, slated for July 28, 2016, stating that it has no power to do so under the law.

Addressing over 5,000 traders of the market, the council’s head of administration, Prince Sunday Olujobi, accompanied by two officers, who represented the council chairman, warned that government could no longer tolerate any crisis in the market.

Olujobi advised interested traders who have any contrary reason why the market election should not hold, to do so within the ambit of the law, to stop it.

“It is the responsibility of the Lagos State government and Mushin Local Council to ensure that peace reins in Ladipo market and others, at all times,” stressing that the traders could only operate under peaceful and conducive atmosphere.

Addressing the traders, chairman of the outgoing executive committee of the Association, in company of other executive members, Chief Cyril Onyemaechi, threw a question to the traders whether or not the election should hold on July 28, which they all answered in affirmative.

At least, 21 candidates have filed their nomination papers to contest the eight offices at the election. The positions being contested are-chairman, vice chairman, general secretary, financial secretary, treasurer, PRO, chief provost and welfare officer.
