Danger of losing the garment of holiness
Text: Genesis 3:23-24
After this 21-day fasting and prayers, there is need for the church to retain the garment of holiness because of the dire consequences of losing it. The Lord does not have a favourite. His principles in dealing with man from time immemorial remains the same and in consonance with the scriptures. God did not pamper Adam and Eve when they flagrantly disobeyed His instruction; He disciplined them.
Man was created to enjoy all the privileges heaven provided for him. This was same with Adam, but he lost God’s favour when he went against the injunctions of the Lord. He became bastard and vagabond by choice. He became exposed to all dangers associated with disobedience. The Lord left him desolate; he was bereft of all he was originally entitled to as a son. The same fate awaits anyone who loses his garment of holiness.
Holiness that is rooted on human wisdom and principles has no efficacy and cannot affect lives positively. It is the holiness that is based on God’s word that has indelible effect in a believer’s life. There is every possibility of losing the garment of holiness we have received if carefulness is thrown to the winds. It is important to note that it is better to lose everything in life to preserve the garment of holiness.
What the word of God does not endorse must be jettisoned. Our yardstick of measuring holiness should be to do in secret or open what the Lord will not condemn if he was present with us. This is the standard of holiness the Lord approves of. This does not connote rattle fear in the service to the Lord. But reverence fear that uplifts the name of the Lord.
Holiness encompasses separation. We must separate ourselves from people that are given to change. We must not meddle with them. Pastors and preachers who do not uphold the tenets of the scriptures should not be associated with. Their words are cankers and go against the word of God. This is because their lifestyle of disobedience will contaminate our holiness. As believers, the world must not be our companion. Friendship with the world will bring about compromise and rubbish holiness of life.
The scriptures are replete with characters who compromised their holiness and lost everything. Samson was one of them. He lost his call and divine assignment to deliver the nation of Israel. Adam compromised and fell out of divine favour. He lost his position, authority and dominion. He became naked and ashamed of himself.
Be on your guard and do not allow history repeat itself in your life; do not allow the world to cite you as an example.
