Danjuma rallies support for Northern Anglican varsity project

The former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd.), has launched the first Northern Nigeria Anglican University otherwise known as Walter Miller University. The proposed project will be sited at Dikko, Niger State.

The former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd.), has launched the first Northern Nigeria Anglican University otherwise known as Walter Miller University. The proposed project will be sited at Dikko, Niger State.

To celebrate the proposed varsity, the elated former Defence Minister gathered friends in Lagos on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, to thank God for the project.

In a statement, Danjuma explained that the project has been underway for the past two years.

He said: “Two years ago, a group of committed academics and Bishops under the leadership of Prof. Adamu Baikie, the first don of education in Northern Nigeria met and mooted the idea of setting up the university. Progress has been made in establishing the university and we are soliciting for your support and cooperation.”

Dignitaries at the launch held at the Wheat Baker Hotel included the Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba; Governors Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State; Godwin Obaseki of Edo State; Abubakar Bello of Niger State; and Darius Ishaku of Taraba State.

Others were former Senate President, David Mark; Senator Tunde Ogbeha; former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha; and the former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana.

Other guests included the Paris-based Nigerian billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Gilbert Chagoury and Bode George, among others.
