Ahead of 2019 general elections, politicians have been advised to be peaceful during their parties’ primaries. Traditional rulers in Delta North under the auspices of Delta North Traditional Rulers forum gave the advice in a five-point communiqué issued at the end of their meeting held at the Owa Oyibu Palace of the Obi of Owa, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizzomor II.

The monarchs reminded the political class, especially those seeking elective positions that peace and stability are sine qua non for the smooth execution of the next general elections and as such they should conduct their political engagements with the highest degree of decorum and responsibility in the interest of public good.

The monarchs also acknowledged the security and peace initiatives of Okowa-led administration and appreciated the efforts of the police commissioner as well as police community relation committee in advancing peaceful co-existence among the people.

The Monarchs commended the state government for the developmental projects across the state and called for more efforts aimed at promoting peace to improve on the states’ development.

“We are proud and satisfied with the performance of Governor Okowa even in the face of paucity of fund. We are of the view that he could do better when the finances of the state improve.”

The traditional rulers appealed to Deltans to support Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for second term, as past governors from Delta Central and Delta South Senatorial Districts served two terms.

They also called on residents of communities prone to flooding to relocate to safer grounds. The communiqué was jointly signed by the Chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II; first Vice Chairman, Obi Kikachukwu; and second Vice Chairman, Ogene Jonathan Kanegede. Thirty-five traditional rulers from Delta North Senatorial District of the state attended the meeting.
