Discover the will of God for you – Part 53

How Do We Do God’s Will? (Cont)
By reading God’s word and constantly learning from it, we will gain the wisdom to perceive God’s direction for our lives. We may be tempted to demand answers from God, but David asked for direction. When we are willing to seek God, learn from his word, and obey his commands, then will we receive his specific guidance.

“Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make Your way straight before my face,” (Ps 5:8).

“Teach me Your way, O Lord, and lead me in a smooth path because of my enemies,” (Ps 27:11).

“Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear Your name,” (Ps 86:11).

“For this is God, our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to death.” (Ps48:14)

We often pray for God’s guidance as we struggle with decisions. What we need is both guidance and a guide — a map that gives us landmarks and directions and a constant companion who has an intimate knowledge of the way and will make sure we interpret the map correctly.

The Bible will be such a map, and the Holy Spirit will be the constant companion and guide. As you make your way through life. Use both the map and your Guide.

“God…will be our guide even to death.” The Lord has committed Himself to be the believer’s faithful and constant guide throughout life, in the experience of death and beyond death to the eternal home where we will be with Him forever (John14:1-3; 1Thes 4:17; Rev21:3; seePhil 1:21).

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding,” (Prv3:5).

“Trust in the Lord.” Trusting in the Lord with all our heart is the opposite of doubting God and His Word. Such trust is fundamental to our relationship with God and is based on the premise that He is trustworthy. As God’s children we can be assured that our heavenly Father loves us and will faithfully care for us (see Mat 10:31), guide us rightly, give us grace and keep His promises. In the most difficult times of our lives, we can commit our way to the Lord (cf. Ps 37:5) and trust Him to work on our behalf.

Leaning has the sense of putting your whole weight on something, resting on and trusting in that person or thing. When we have an important decision to make, we sometimes feel that we cannot trust anyone – not even God. But God knows what is best for us. He is a better judge of what we want than even we are! We must trust him completely in every choice we make.
