Do you know the lord? – Part 1

Idorenyin James

Samuel 2:12, KJV.
Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; They knew not the LORD.

We live in a very religious generation. A generation that claims they know the LORD because of being involved in numerous religious activities. We see a generation that seems to be very active in the things of the LORD (Ministry), but lack the knowledge of the LORD.

In other words, our generation is involved with numerous religious activities, a people zealous for the things of the LORD, but don’t know Him – “Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to Knowledge” (Romans 10:1 – 2).

Friends, while I appreciate your zeal for the LORD, your numerous religious activities and exploits, may I ask; DO YOU TRULY KNOW THE LORD? Your zeal for the things of the LORD (Ministry), without the knowledge of the LORD, makes you a mere “busy body”.

The sons of Eli were actively involved in service as Priests in the sanctuary, yet, ”they knew not the LORD”. This suggest that, it is possible to be very active and busy in “ministry for the LORD”, without knowing Him.

Let me observe here that, KNOWING THE LORD, is quite different from, KNOWING ABOUT THE LORD. To know about the LORD could be HEAD KNOWLEDGE or HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE; but to KNOW THE LORD is EXPERIENTIAL. It takes a man who knows the LORD Experiential to declare thus, ”For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth; And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God. “And, “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him” (Job 19:25 – 26; Psalm 34:8)

Friend, to know the LORD is;

• A Personal Experience –- this simply means having a personal knowledge and conviction of who the LORD is. “Thus saith the LORD, let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches; But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he UNDERSTANDETH and KNOWETH ME, that I AM THE LORD…..”  (Jeremiah 9:23 – 24, KJV, emphasis added).
Do you have a personal experience of the knowledge of who the LORD is?

• An Intimate Experience – This explains a situation of a personal intimate relationship with the LORD – “And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend ……” “ And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face” (Exodus 33:11; Deuteronomy 34:10, KJV).

Moses, is singled out in his generation in Israel, as one who related intimately with the LORD. How intimate is your relationship with the LORD?

• A Growing Experience – This is a situation of an insatiable desire for the LORD. A condition of continual, daily longing and yearning for more of the LORD in your life – “As the hart panthet after the water brooks, so panthet my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?” (Psalm 42:1 – 2, KJV).
