Fubara-Manuel, Uche urge Christian leaders to speak truth to power

The President, Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Most Rev. (Dr.) Benebo Fubara-Manuel has said Christian leaders need to be strong and courageous to serve and also speak truth to power.

Fubara-Manuel, who in his sermon lamented that Nigerians live in a nation that is presently in serious difficulty, said: “There are hunger and poverty everywhere. The excuse that this is attributable to COVID-19 is political. Before the disease, we had been suffering from hunger, but with COVID-19, it became worse. He prayed to God to intervene in the nation’s security situation and corruption. He called on leaders to repent and Nigerians to show a good example in the midst of the broken economy in the country today.
 
While charging the new scribe to be strong, the cleric said this is necessary for every call of God in “our life.” According to him, “the call of God shows that He has trust in us because of what He is doing in our lives. There is a promise of God that predates our call. We are not the first, so we will not be the last. We need to be strong and courageous because there is a guide in the scripture to lead us.”
 
Speaking on what his tenure will bring, Onyemara said, “By the grace of God, the Christian Council of Nigeria will witness new dawn in financial and infrastructural development, ecumenical relationship and in everything, it’s called to address as a body in Nigeria.

“I am called at a critical time when Nigeria needs leadership and direction. The opportunity given to me is for service. I have many ideas that will be put to work, by the Grace of God,” he said.

The Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr. Samuel ‘Emeka Kanu Uche, in his goodwill message congratulated the new Secretary and assured of the church’s unwavering commitment and support to the Council.

He said there is no other time in the country’s history than the present when the relevance and importance of the Christian Council of Nigeria should be felt.
