‘God loves Nigerians, but is against unrighteousness’
The Bishop, Diocese of Ondo, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), The Rt. Rev (Dr) Stephen Adeniran Oni has stressed the need for Nigerians to draw closer to God, pray to Him and ask for His mercy. He said God is interested and loves Nigerians, but is against unrighteousness.
Bishop Oni disclosed this while delivering a sermon recently at the Holy Communion Service at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Ondo State.
Taking his text from John 16:15-19, Oni said Jesus Christ beseeched all that He had more to tell them, but now it will be too much for them to bear. ‘When, however, the Holy Spirit comes who reveals the truth about God, He will lead you into all truth, He will not speak His authority but He will speak of what He hears and He will tell you of things to come.’ The cleric, who unreservedly expressed his gratitude to God, rendered a sonorous Yoruba lyrics, “Oniduro mi E ma seun o; T’o ba se eniyan; A to siregun,” literately translated to mean, “Great thanks to my Mediator/Guarantor, but if it has been human, there would have been numberless references in arrogance.”
He admonished the congregation to build up their strength with the Lord and His mighty power.
About 20 new prospective communicants, drawn from Ondo North West Archdeaconry were triumphantly received into the fold of Christ. The event was attended by a large number of faithful, who filled the church’s 400 capacity main bowl.
