The Lagos State government has promised to embark on the second phase of another 114 roads to cut across the 57 council areas in the first quarter of next year, to open-up the rural areas in the state.

Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperative, Rotimi Ogunleye, who disclosed this during the 16th Professor Anthony Afolabi Adegbola Memorial Lecture organised by Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group (IDRDG), Ikorodu, Lagos, where he was conferred with a Merit Award, said provision of infrastructure remains the main priority of the present administration.

While noting that when there is infrastructure, there will be development in the rural areas, he said after completion the roads would provide value addition, transportation and good business for thebgrassroots people.

Said he; “Lagos has vibrant economy, there is no recession in Lagos State because our economy is being adequately managed by the governorand his lieutenants are working to make it work. Our local governments have keyed into that. All the 20 councils and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), have keyed into the programmes.

“We just commissioned 114 roads, another 114 roads would be flagged off within the first quarter of 2017, so this is what we are doing and the councils have keyed into that, its an all inclusive developmental programme that we have in Lagos State.”

Speaking on the award, he said it is in recognition of his contribution to the welfare of his people, as a member of the group, for adding value to their welfare and standard of living.  He noted that the award will encourage him to add more value to his people and Ikorodu division at large.
