The Sabbath Day was a unique day for Israelites. They had a clear command from the Lord on how to observe and keep it holy before the Lord. They were strictly commanded not to do any work on the Sabbath Day, which was usually observed on a Saturday. Any Israelites that disobeyed were meant to face death. However, in the New Testament dispensation, Sabbath has been replaced with Resurrection Morning, which is Sunday.

Generally, the Sabbath Day must be kept in strict observance of God’s clear instructions to believers. Resurrection Morning is a day of service to the Lord; it is a sacred day dedicated to the Lord. The Israelites were ardent observers of the Sabbath. They never got poorer, but richer to the extent that they became the envy of the people around them. Their prosperity and progress showed that God was with them.

As new dispensation believers, we are to keep the Resurrection Morning in holiness and reverence. Resurrection Mornings should be set aside only for the Lord. All appointments and engagements should not be on a Sunday in order not to offend the instructions of the Lord concerning the Sabbath Day. Christians are too much in a hurry to leave the presence of God for village meetings and other social engagements during Sunday church services. People even meet their untimely death in a bid to hurry out of God’s presence on this day. We must not learn the way of the heathen!

The fathers of faith were the people that distorted the Order of Service of the Lord. They inculcated among worshippers, the habit of being in a hurry each time they come to the service of the Lord by creating multiple services on a Sunday, at different times. Therefore, people have seen it as norms and standards to monitor their time whenever they come to worship God. Short services will take one to nowhere. These are the reasons Christians are defeated in their lives journey.

The secret of the exploit made by the early Apostles and disciples was a result of the long hours spent in the presence of God. Their services could take them 24 hours without worshippers complaining about their time. As believers, we must not learn the way of the heathen or borrow their pattern of worship to avoid backsliding. We must give time to the word of God to enable us to stand firm in the ways of the Lord. The power that sustains any church is the word of God. Whoever does not have time for the word of God may be fast heading to derailment.

In the final analysis, we must not allow what we say about other churches to creep into our lives. We must give God his full place and time to work in our lives.
