Our key text for today is the Psalmist’s testimony of God’s multiplication of the children of Israel. This testimony comes years after the prayer of Moses in Deuteronomy 1:11. Generations after the prayer of Moses, the Psalmist testified that God had increased Israel to the point that they became stronger than their enemies.

God’s blessings of multiplication, as we said earlier, are multi-dimensional. It is numerical, spiritual, material and physical. God’s blessings on Abraham were multi-dimensional.

Moses’ prayer for Israel for a thousand-fold multiplication blessing was fulfilled in future generations of Israel. Numbers 22:3 records that Moab was exceedingly afraid of Israel “because they were many.” Intimidated by the sheer number of the children of Israel, Balak invited Balaam to come and curse the children of Israel. When Balaam arrived and erected his altars, his prophecy confirmed that Israel was already blessed and beyond any curse. “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent.

Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Behold, I have received a command to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it,” (Numbers 23:19-20 NKJV). Balak, in anger, gave up on Balaam for failing to curse a people whom God had blessed.

Believers in Christ are already blessed. Paul categorically stated in Galatians 3:9 that, “So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham,” (Galatians 3:9 NKJV). Again, Peter stated during his Pentecost sermon that Jesus came to bless us. For those who may be looking for blessings elsewhere, know that you have been blessed already. “To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities,” (Acts 3:26 NKJV).

Though we are blessed in Christ, we can position ourselves for more blessings. The Psalmists prayed, “May the Lord give you increase more and more, You and your children,” (Psalms 115:14 NKJV). There is actually no limit to the blessings we can receive from God. This is why the Aaronic blessing is pronounced every day upon God’s children. It is significant to know that Jesus was received into heaven while blessing his disciples (Luke 24:50-51).

Our obedience and generosity towards God provoke his blessings on us. Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice Isaac provoked God to pronounce blessings on him (Genesis 22:16-18 NKJV).

Phinehas provoked God with his dedication and zeal. His dedication stopped a plague from ravaging the camp of Israel. “Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give to him My covenant of peace; and it shall be to him and his descendants after him a covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel,” (Numbers 25:12-13 NKJV).

Solomon provoked God to bless him when he offered a thousand burnt offerings. We, too, can provoke God with our burnt offering. “Now the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place: Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar…and God said,

“Ask! What shall I give you?” (1 Kings 3:4-5 NKJV).

In Malachi 3:10, God challenges us to prove him with our tithes and offering and see if he would not open the windows of heaven and pour out blessings beyond our wildest dreams. We all can position ourselves for more blessings from God. Contact:pastoracukachi@gmail.com
