This does not mean that we will be spared pain, suffering or hardship, but that God will see us through to a glorious conclusion. 29:12-14, God did not forget his people, even though they were captive in Babylon. He planned to give them a new beginning with a new purpose—to turn them into new people. In times of deep trouble, it may appear as though God has forgotten you. But God may be preparing you, as he did the people of Judah, for a new beginning with him at the centre.
29:13, according to God’s wise plan, his people were to have hope and a future; consequently they could call upon him in confidence. Although the exiles were in a difficult place and time, they should not despair because they had God’s presence, the privilege of prayer, and God’s grace. God can be sought and found when we seek him wholeheartedly. Neither strange lands, sorrows, frustration, nor physical problems can break that communion.
Jer. 29:12-13,“then you will call… and I will listen.” Strategic timing is often involved in the fulfillment of God’s promises (cf. Paul’s reference to “when the fullness of the time was come” in Gal 4:4). God fulfills His word and promises both in relation to the fullness of His redemptive purpose (cf.v.10) and in response to his faithful people’s earnest prayers (cf.Amos 5:4-6; see Dan 9:2,5). Jeremiah prophesied that at the end of the 70-year captivity, a new fullness of time would occur; God would then move within a holy remnant, so that, they would seek Him in prayer with all their hearts. Thereupon God would listen, answer from heaven and fulfill His promises of restoration (vv.13-14).
Note two principles:
• When God desires to do great things for His people, He moves His people to great praying.
• The timing of God’s answers to their prayers is often linked to God’s purposes for His people as a whole.
(4.0) What Constitutes Genuine Love For God?
The nature and type of love God demands from mankind
Synthesis
The first, agapa, means an intelligent and purposeful love, primarily of mind and will. The second, phile, involves warm natural affection of the emotions, thus a more personal and feeling love. Thus the love must be not only of the will, but also of the heart, a love springing from both purpose and personal attachment. Therefore, believers must all have a personal heartfelt love for and devotion to Jesus.
Knowing correct doctrine, obeying some of the commands, and worshipping in the church are not enough. Sincere love for Christ results in single-hearted devotion to Him, purity of life and a love of the truth. The Christian faith is first of all a personal ministering unto the Lord Jesus Himself.
