Brethren, we understand from Biblical authority that originally, God created man in His own image and likeness vis-à-vis His supremacy, authority and control. Man at creation was endowed with the wisdom and power to rule, control, invent, regulate, etc., the lives and all the activities of other creatures.

Genesis 1:26-27 states, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

As at the time the authority to govern and control other creatures was bestowed upon Man, he was still an image of God, created in His likeness of holiness and righteousness. Consequently, he had the authority to rule over everything that was in the Garden of Eden. Whatever he determined in the Garden of Eden was established by God and whatever he said prevailed. In affirming this authority upon man, God moved all the created creatures to Adam to be given names as he pleased. And whatever name was given by Adam to any of the creature remains its name till date.

Gen. 2:19 says, “And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name there”

It was Adam that named everything created by God. His words at that period were always established and that was the authority man was enjoying, until he was deceived by that old serpent, the devil that made him and Eve to disobey God. Consequently, they were driven out of the Garden of Eden and the privilege given to them truncated by God. From then, the suffering of man began.

Genesis 3:23-24 says, “Therefore, the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.”

Sending Adam out of the Garden signified his exclusion and guilt from that communion with God, which was the glory of Garden. Man, therefore, began to suffer and simultaneously became deficient with regard to the privilege he was enjoying. Romans 3:23 captures the scenario as “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

So in Adam, the power was lost, the righteousness ignored, the nature of God withdrawn and the glory departed. As a result of the lost glory, man was separated from God and he became slave to the devil, who from then started leading him into committing sin. And as long as man remains in sin, he is a slave to the devil. Anybody, who indulges in sin, is under the influence of the devil and thus enslaved by the devil. If you are living in sin and wants to be liberated from the bondage of sin and Satan, you must do something today, so that the hand of the wicked one shall leave you.

Jn 8:34-35 says, “Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.”

If you commit sin, you are a servant to sin and are bound to it as a slave is to his master and thus will not have the love of God, neither His authority. If you want to exercise the authority of your father, you must have the love of your father. You cannot reject the hood of the king and at the same time enjoy the honour of the palace. If you are living in sin, you are of the devil and must subject yourself to his rules and cannot rule him.
