Celebrated in the world, but tormented in hell

The phrase “celebrated in the world, but tormented in hell” evokes a stark contrast between worldly fame or approval and eternal spiritual consequences. From a biblical standpoint, this concept aligns with the teachings that emphasise the futility of seeking worldly glory at the expense of one’s soul.

It is a common practice for men to seek for fame, titles, achievements, riches among others, yet without caring a damn about the wellbeing of their souls. They can spend a lot of money, time and energy seeking for worldly glory at the detriment of their souls. You hear such names as: Eze Ego 1 (King of money 1); Onwa Na-etiri Oha 1(The moon that shines for the people 1); Oke-osisi 1 (Iroko tree 1); Ogbu-Agu 1 (Lion killer 1), among others. God is never in their thoughts.

All they are doing is to glorify flesh and receive praise from men. In the process of acquiring these titles and earthly glories, they mortgage their souls and detach themselves from God. Some of them, in order to be above human destruction, go deep into cultism and even endanger their generations yet unborn.
Having seen the deplorable situation man has brought himself into, our first text above asked a pertinent question:“What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his soul or what shall a man give in exchange of his soul?”

There is nothing that can equate a man’s soul. All the money in this world cannot purchase a single soul. That is how important soul is to God, yet man does not care about his soul that is so precious to God.

Our second text above says: “…Vanity of vanities, vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” Some words that can replace ‘Vanity’ are: vainglory, uselessness, worthlessness, futility, idleness, fruitlessness, among others. In other words, all our earthly pursuits, glories, celebrations and so on are worthless and, therefore, cannot be compared to heavenly glory, yet men have allowed worthless, irrelevant things to deceive them and take their minds away from God. Hooo! What a pitiable condition.

Examples Of Celebrated, Yet
Sinful IndividualsIn The Bible
Throughout history, people celebrated for their worldly power or success often fell into sin. For instance:
Herod Agrippa I: Hewas praised as a god by the people, but was struck down by an angel for failing to give glory to God (Acts 12:21-23).
Jezebel, a queen celebrated for her influence and power, faced divine judgment for leading Israel into idolatry (2 Kings 9:30-37).

King Nebuchadnezzar: The account of King Nebuchadnezzar in Dan.4 readily comes to mind. King Nebuchadnezzar woke up one day and his heart was filled with pride and instead of glorifying God for the splendour of his kingdom, he began to exalt himself. Immediately, God’s judgment came upon him and he was turned to animal. He was sent to the bush where he ate grasses for seven years until God showed him mercy and recovered him.

If you are reading this message, and you are among those that are dwelling in the euphoria of earthly celebration and glory, be careful not to be caught unawares.

There Is No More Time
Quickly, let us have a peep into what hell is like:
The Bible paints a vivid picture of hell as a place of eternal torment, reserved for those who reject God’s grace and live in rebellion against His commands.

Description Of Hell
It is a place of unending suffering. There is “weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 13:50). It is a place of separation from God’s presence andreserved for those who prioritise worldly pleasures over God’s will.

Torment For The Ungodly: In Revelation 20:15, it is written: “Anyone whose name is not in the book of life will be thrown into the lake of fire.” This eternal torment is not limited to the overtly wicked, but includes those who lived for themselves rather than for God.

Additionally, some individuals think that their good deeds and generosity will save them from hell and endear them to God, but Acts 4:12 says:“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved,” KJV

There is no salvation in any other place except through Jesus Christ. Do not think that your good deeds outside Christ will save you. Jesus is the beginning and end of all things, including your good deeds, so be warned.

Rev 20:15: “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire,” KJV
The Bible counsels us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to us (Matt6:33). At this juncture, may I ask: “What is your priority in life?” Are you among those that want the world to celebrate them, yet they do not worth anything in heaven or the kingdom of God?May this message bring a transformation in your life, so that, you can seek the most important thing in life. Many people leave substance to pursue shadow. May you not be among the people that the bible describes in Hosea 4v6, as “people that were destroyed because they lacked knowledge.”

Remember the rich man and Lazarus in Lk 16v19-31. The rich man enjoyed worldly wealth and celebration, but neglected compassion and righteousness. In death, he found himself in torment, while Lazarus, the poor man, was comforted in Abraham’s bosom.
Judgment For Hypocrisy: Jesus denounced religious leaders who sought worldly praise, while neglecting justice, mercy and faithfulness (Matthew 23:27-28). Their outward celebration masked inward corruption, leading to condemnation. Are you like them?

Acts 2:37: “Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?” KJV

What you need to do now if you are among those still seeking worldly celebration, while heaven does not recognise you, is to repent from your sins and receive Jesus Christ into your life as your Lord and personal saviour

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
James 4:4 warns: “Friendship with the world is enmity with God.” Aligning with worldly values often conflicts with God’s will.

In conclusion, being celebrated in the world might seem desirable, but without a foundation in God, it leads to spiritual ruin. The Bible urges us to live with eternity in mind, prioritising God’s glory over human praise. As Jesus said in Matthew 16:25: “For whosoever will save his life will lose it, and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake shall find it.” Let us strive not for worldly celebration, but for eternal joy in God’s presence.
