Church of Nigeria to consecrate Okupevi, others as Bishops in August
The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has announced the election of four new Bishops to fill the vacant Sees, as well as two Archbishops for Lagos and Kaduna Provinces including the Dean-elect of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). The Primate of the Church, His Grace, The Most Rev’d Henry C. Ndukuba, who approved the consecration service of the newly elected Bishops for Sunday, August 27, 2023, said the service would hold at the Diocese of Lagos West Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, Ikeja, Lagos.
The Communication Officer of the Church of Nigeria, Korede Akintunde, in a statement, said: “Recall that after a successful Episcopal Synod
held at the Basilica of Grace Anglican Church, Abuja, on June 6, 2023, Primate Ndukuba announced the election of four new Bishops to fill vacant Sees, two newly elected Archbishops for Lagos and Kaduna Provinces and the Dean-elect of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican
Communion).
Those to be consecrated are: The Venerable Collins Babalola for Ajayi Crowther Diocese; The Venerable Festus Nwafili for Ndokwa Diocese; The Venerable Ifedola Okupevi for Lagos Diocese and The Venerable Ebenezer
Saiki for Akoko-Edo Diocese.
Others include, Dean-elect, The Most Rev’d Blessing Enyindah, two Archbishop-elects — The Most Rev’d Michael Fape of Remo Diocese for Lagos Province and The Rt. Rev’d Timothy Yahaya of Kaduna Diocese for Kaduna Province.
Recall that the Diocese of Lagos Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), last year, lost its Bishop, The Most Rev’d Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye. Before his death, he was elected Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos. With the election of The Venerable
Ifedola Okupevi as Bishop of Lagos Diocese, he automatically replaces the late Olumakaiye, while Archbishop-elect, The Most Rev’d Michael Fape of Remo Diocese becomes the new Archbishop of Lagos Province.
