A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. George Ehusani, has enjoined Christians to reflect more on Jesus’ compassionate lifestyle and instructions while on earth, and apply His teachings in their individual lives to reveal God’s mercy to their families, the nation and the world in general.

Father Ehusani, who gave the advice while delivering a lecture on the theme of the 8th National Conference of the Association of Papal Knights and Medalists in Nigeria (APKMN) titled, “Jesus, The Face And Revelation of God’s Mercy,” at the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus (EHJ) Centre, Ikeja, Lagos, said Jesus Christ came to bring God’s mercy to humanity that was suffering from multiple handicaps, which include sins and sickness. He said through His love, Jesus demonstrated God’s mercy and compassion for mankind. He admonished Christians, particularly Catholics, to always show mercy to all in their communities.

He said giving and charity works are act of mercy that go a long way in touching the lives of those around them.

While commending the church on its various charity efforts, Ehusani remarked that the prison ministry is one the greatest manifestations of the church as an oasis of mercy. He said the church’s legal teams have consistently tried to secure the release of those incarcerated that should not be in prison.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the conference, it was agreed that there is need to inculcate compassion and mercy in promoting social justice in the country, especially as they affect persons and institutions.
