Godliness today, godlessness tomorrow: Any nexus with salvation – Part 2?

Moses as a case study
Moses was born into a Hebrew family in slavery in Egypt, when it was authorised that all male children by the Jews should be killed (Exodus 1-2). However, God used the daughter of Herod to save his life, but on getting older, he traced his root. This happened, when he saw an Egyptian smiting his Hebrew brother and Moses took it upon himself and murdered the Egyptian (Egypt 2:11-12).

Moses acted actually in defence of his fellow Jew, but his action ran contrary to God’s commandment, concerning murder. It was the same act that Cain committed by killing Abel his own brother, which made God to curse him (Genesis 4:1-16). Meanwhile, the Bible did not say whether a sacrifice was made to God to appease Him for forgiveness on account of the murder by Moses. The only thing recorded was that he ran away to Midian.

However, God used that same Moses to rescue the people of Israel from slavery. However, the event that happened in the book of Jude might have pointed to the sin of murder on the Moses’ neck, which Satan wanted to capitalise on. Jude 2:9 says, “Yet Michael the archangel, when he was contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee”. We could relate this to when Satan went to God concerning Job and his righteousness, and same Satan might have then taken the matter of Moses to God, on the murder that he (Moses) committed, that the body of Moses belonged to him. But it took the intervention of Archangel Michael to rescue Moses’ body.

Moses was a godly man, but the single ungodly act that he committed, without any sign that he asked for forgiveness from God, might have been what Satan held on to till Moses died. This again brought about the gap that man leaves between godliness and godlessness. This unconscious gap may be the time that will determine one’s salvation. This was why 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”. This also, Jesus Christ warned us in Matthew 24:43 that “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.”

This unexpected hour that Jesus Christ would come, as said earlier, could be the unconscious gap we created between godliness and godlessness. Some of the acts that could create this gap, which we might not even have taken very seriously, include:
Lying in defence of a matter

• A man, who has had a very hectic day, was told that somebody he never wanted to see was around. And he told the messenger to inform the man he was not around. Unconsciously, he has lied, but one serious thing about this ‘little’ and unconscious sin is that, one may not remember that and fail to ask for forgiveness, which will then stand against his salvation.

• Somebody who wanted to borrow money from us, and rather than tell the person that we did not plan on anyone borrowing from the money we had, we told him/her that we were also still looking for somebody to borrow money from. In reality, we have lied and this will lead a godly man from his godliness position to that of godlessness, and what then will happen to his salvation, should Jesus Christ come at that hour?
