The Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins has urged the new government of President Muhammadu Buhari and those who won the last elections to tackle the issue of insecurity and make it their priority, as they come on board in May this year.

Adewale, who stated this, last Friday during the 2019 Chrism Mass organised by the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos at Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos, lamented the insecurity recorded in Zamfara, Yobe and Nasarawa among others, and called on those in authority to adopt new ways of tackling the issue.

He said: “The idea of using government resources for personal gains should be jettisoned, because being chosen as leaders of the people is a covenant to the people and also to God and whosoever breaks a covenant would be responsible for such fallout.”

He described the Chrism Mass as an opportunity for all priests to renew their promises and commitment to serve, not minding the challenges, adding that it is also an opportunity for the laity to give thanks to God for the gift of priests. He called on Christians to emulate the life of Jesus Christ and live for others.
