Bishop of the Diocese of Isiala Ngwa South, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Isaac Nwaobia, has stressed the importance of teaching ministry in the church with qualified leaders under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. In a communiqué issued at the end of the first Session of the third Synod of the Diocese with the theme: “The Teaching Ministry of the Church,” the Bishop called on church teachers to continually upgrade themselves through theological research with prayers, while ensuring that their ministerial development is anchored and tailored towards perceptions and concerns of this generation.

Emphasising on key elements of the Catholic faith, which border on accepting the One True God as Supreme, Who revealed Himself as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the cleric charged Christians to exemplify the fact that salvation can only be attained through faith in Jesus Christ, which will manifest in love towards others, without prejudice.

Nwaobia, in the communiqué, called on President Buhari to re-channel security vote of political office holders towards establishing industries for youth employment, since allocations could no longer accommodate payment of salaries and pensions. While appealing to the government to seriously revamp the agricultural sector, the Bishop said state governments should not only extend occasional supervision to mission schools returned to the owners, but should also lend support through subvention to those schools. He tasked such schools to ensure provision of teachers that would continue with the teaching ministry of the Church.

The Synod congratulated the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Most Revd. Nicholas Okoh on his additional responsibility as the Chairman of Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON). It also commended him and his wife, Nkasiobi, for being the voices on national and international spheres such as political, social and human concerns.

At the end of the synod, six people, including the Commissioner of Education, Abia State, Prof. Ikechi Mgbeooji, Dame Grace Esiaba of Anglican College, Owerrinta and Children trainer, Ven. Law Chukwukere were given Diamond Education Award. Four others, including the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mrs. Ibim Siemetary, Chief Izuwa Nwogwu and Rev. Azubuike Ahubelem were also honoured with the Mission Partner Award.
