Key Verse: Exodus 33:18,
“And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.” (KJV)

The Glory of God is the overpowering presence of God. The statement in Exodus 33:18 was made by a man who hungered for more of God’s glorious presence. His name is Moses. Moses was curious about God and was a chronic seeker of God. This statement was his response to God, when God told him to continue with his assignment of leading the people of Israel to the Promised Land, but that He (God) will not travel with them because they are a stubborn and rebellious people (Exodus 33:5).

Moses knew the calamity and danger of carrying out a divine assignment without God’s presence, which was why he insisted that God should personally go with them. Today, we have many Pastors parading themselves with different titles and degrees without carrying with them God’s presence. Moses said to God in Exodus 33:12 (NLT), “You have been telling me, ‘Take these people up to the Promised Land.’ But you haven’t told me whom you will send with me.” Moses took his curiosity of knowing God further, when he asked God, “let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favour… If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place” (Exodus 33:13-15).

Moses advanced further his curiosity of seeing God’s Glory when he asked God, “Show Me Thy Glory” (Exodus 33:18). At this point, God could not resist Moses curiosity of knowing Him and God said to Moses, “I will make all my goodness pass before you … . But you may not look directly at my face, for no one may see me and live. … As my glorious presence passes by, I will hide you in the crevice of the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will remove my hand and let you see me from behind. But my face will not be seen”(Exodus 33:19-23).

Why was Moses insisting on God showing him His Glory? The presence of God is the trademark of every believer in Christ. God’s presence sets one apart from his equals (Exodus 33:16b).

What is the Condition of God Revealing His Glory? The answer is Total Separation unto God. In Exodus 34:2-3, God said to Moses, “Be ready in the morning to climb up Mount Sinai and present yourself to me on the top of the mountain. No one else may come with you. In fact, no one is to appear anywhere on the mountain. Do not even let the flocks or herds graze near the mountain.”

To carry God’s Glory with you, you must personally have a Mount Sinai Encounter with God. Mount Sinai Encounter is where you go up and seek God, setting aside every distraction to have a face-to-face encounter with Him.

What happens when the Glory of God is revealed? The Glory of God distinguishes a person from others. Moses said in Exodus 33:16b, “For your presence among us sets your people and me apart from all other people on the earth.” The Hebrew word for glory in the Old Testament is “kabod”, meaning weight. It suggests something, which radiates from the one who has it, leaving an impression behind. The New Testament word is “doxa.” “This word can be defined as beauty. When God’s Glory is revealed to a person, such a person carries the weight of God’s presence.

God’s Glory is the beauty of His manifold perfections; a reality of the infinite greatness and worth and the infinite moral excellence of His character. It is the bright and awesome radiance that breaks forth in visible manifestations.
