‘If The Church Were Healthy, Our Leaders Would Have Trusted Us With The Affairs Of The Nation’

Speakers at the one-day prayer conference for Lagos State and Nigeria at 56 have urged the church to wake up to its responsibilities, stressing that the task of rebuilding the nation will require an intensified effort of the church to achieve economic stability and good governance. They also noted that the nation is sick because the church is also sick and therefore, should rise up and play its role.

At the prayer conference organised by the Ministers of God Prayer Network International (MGPNI) held recently at the Chapel of Christ the Light Church, Alausa-Ikeja, Lagos, with the theme: ‘Healing the church to heal the nation’ Part 2, convener of the programme, Dr. Bola Oyegbami, stated that the state of despondency, distress, affliction, insecurities of lives and properties in the nation is a wake-up call on the church to intensify its prayers.

“The circumstances we find ourselves demand that the fire must be kept burning at the altar of prayer, it must not be quenched. This is a season of lawlessness, disobedience, corruption, wickedness, godlessness, sorcery, witchcrafts, anti-Christ activities, according to Timothy 3:1-9. It is also a season of bomb blasts, terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, intellectual idolatry and gang raping.

Landmark judgmental prayers and decrees will be proceeding from the church. In this season, church denominations and factions of ministries will network in unity and work with one accord, spirit and focus.”

The Guest Speaker, Emma Nwachukwu, said the church was born perfect and should not at any point be sick, as is being witnessed today.

He said: “Jesus is the head of the church, the church is the body and that is where the problem is. Church members are the problem of God and we cannot fulfill God’s agenda that way.

“We devise doctrines that suit us, this is when the church should stand up and show the nation the direction. The church should lead and guide our nation. If the church were healthy, our leaders would have trusted us with the affairs of the nation. God’s principles will never change. The church that will heal the nation must be detribalised. Many Christian organisations today run with stories of brethren stealing – we must heal ourselves first.”

He continued: “because we are tribalised and ethnically sick, we cannot move forward. Our enemies will become our footstool, until we make it right with God.”

While praying for Lagos State and the nation, the Pastor, House of Purpose Lekki, Seth Akilele noted that Nigeria’s over dependency on oil has brought “us to the state we are in. God wants us to look beyond oil, as He has given us wisdom for innovation and diversification. He will use the church to give direction to the nation.”
