Verse 24-26 says, “And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

Pastor Lazarus Muoka

Luke 16:19-23 says, “There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.”

We should know that this story of a rich man who cared not about his soul and Lazarus, who was poor but took care of his soul, is never a fiction because it was told by Jesus Christ. The rich man lived and died in his riches and went to hell fire, leaving behind what he laboured for and all that the devil used in deceiving his soul. Lazarus also died but was in safe hands, in the bosom of Abraham. That both died is an indication that riches, which many put their trust in, will not deliver them from death. The rich man might be faring deliciously everyday, while Lazarus was famished, but the fact remains that a day came when each died.

Verse 24-26 says, “And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.”

The rich man was not buried with his riches, which made him to puff up. Since the story was told till date, that man has not taken a drop of water and shall remain as such for eternity. He sold his soul for the riches of this world and lost it forever in hell fire. Many people that have abandoned the Lord and followed the mistake of this rich man will face same consequences at the end of their lives. The rich man tried in vain to pass a message to his brethren that are still living, so they would not come to hell fire. But the truth is that the miserable condition of uncared for souls in the next world, and the blessed condition of glorified souls cannot be changed at death. This is a lesson for the living.

“Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.” (Verse 29-31).

At this point, the soul, which he never bothered to care for is gone into torment forever. In hell, he knew his mistake was made while in the world. It is a pity that many people are still into the same mistake of amassing wealth without caring for their souls, which are their real selves.

That rich man pleaded that Lazarus should be sent to testify, because the danger of those alive is that they don’t know what he is going through, but Abraham said no, even if somebody could come out from the grave they would not believe. Beloved, do not wait to be told what the condition of your soul will be after this life, if you refused to take care of it. This message will bear witness against you, if you ignore it.

Amend your ways so that it shall be well with you. Remember that no matter how long we live in this world, a day shall come when we shall die.
