The deceitfulness of sin

Sin is deceitful in nature. It does not present itself the way it is, but makes a covering of beautiful garment that leads men to destruction.

Text: Romans 7:13
Sin is deceitful in nature. It does not present itself the way it is, but makes a covering of beautiful garment that leads men to destruction. Sin disguised and presented itself before Adam and Eve, as a friend until it drove them out of the Garden of Eden; it hurts when it bites its victims.

In a nutshell, sin is the transgression of the law. The “law” here is the word of God. It is any lifestyle and opinions that negate the word of God. This is irrespective of the culture and traditions of any tribe or country. For instance, the scripture forbids a woman from wearing clothes that belong to men. No matter the opinion or culture of any country on this, it still remains sinful.

Sin may look so good in its first appearance until it leaves its victim empty and desolate. It separates a man from his creator; it saps a man of his original glory; it separates a man from his source. These are the reasons it must be avoided at all cost.

There are no categories of sin. Sin is sin because it has the capacity of taking a man to hell. No matter how little a sin may appear, it is dangerous in that it can destroy and send a soul to hell fire.

Obviously, young people are never comfortable with messages that condemn their lifestyle. They prefer sugarcoated messages that appeal to their flesh and sense of reasoning. But it will be a disservice if a minister pampers sin in order to accommodate everyone or group of persons in the congregation.

Sin is sinful indeed! It makes a man leprous and distasteful in the sight of God. It is an Ichabod that makes the glory of God and man to depart. Sin brought a curse to the earth and rendered it impotent. This is why the earth is today reserved for fire.

Sad enough, many ministers do not have the courage to speak against sin in their congregations because they are sinners themselves; they are not free from sin. They go freely to the temple of God with their sins. A sinner is a dead man unworthy to touch anything that concerns God. Preaching is good if the preacher is holy. Any service rendered to God in sin attracts curses.

The wages of sin is death. Sinners are dead before the Lord. The judgment of God hangs around sinners who live in sin. But the grace of God is available for sinners who will own up to their sins, confess and forsake them. On the other hand, destruction and eternal separation awaits sinners who hold onto his sin.
