The doctrine of the last prophet – Part 2

The New Testament Arrangement
Let us take a trip through the Word to show you beyond any doubt that, as far as God is concerned, there is nothing called the Last Prophet. The first Scripture that I would like us to see is Hebrews 1:2. “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.”

This Scripture tells us clearly of the two arrangements for both natural and spiritual Israel. It says that “God, who at sundry times, and in diverse manners spoke in TIME PAST (the Old Covenant) unto the (JEWISH) fathers by the PROPHETS …” These prophets were the voice of God unto the people of God in the Old Testament. He spoke to them by Moses; by Joshua; by Isaiah; Ezekiel; Amos, etc. He chose prophets, anointed them to stand in that office and they brought His Word to the people.

These prophets were powerful people, and had great authority with God. In fact, they were like gods. God actually told Moses, “I have made thee a god to Pharaoh” (Exodus 7:1). This was why almost everybody wanted to stand in that office, and this gave rise to false Prophets against whom God Himself warned His children in the Old Testament and gave them ways by which to identify them. These Prophets came to the people of God with “Thus saith the Lord.”

But verse 2 of this Hebrews 1 makes it clear that this God has a completely NEW ARRANGEMENT in these last days. He is speaking to the spiritual Israel by His Son – JESUS. The last days started the day Jesus was born. God is not speaking to us through prophets today. The immutable Word of God says HE is speaking to us by Jesus, the Word of God.

How does Jesus speak to us today? That is very simple. Let us read Bro. Paul’s letter to the saints at Ephesus in Ephesians 4:10-14. “He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things. And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.”

I believe this is very clear. Jesus has now appointed a VOICE in the Body, and that voice is the five-fold ministry offices (let us note that they are not TITLES) of APOSTLES, PROPHETS, EVANGELISTS, PASTORS AND TEACHERS. For what purpose? – For the perfecting of the saints; for the work of the ministry; for the edifying of the body of Christ, which is the Church. This means that the prophetic ministry alone cannot bring the Church into perfection, as is being suggested by the teachers of this demonic doctrine, and as it is bound to happen if indeed, there is a Last Prophet. Let us note here, that all the ministry offices have a role to play in bringing the Church to perfection.

Therefore, if there is a Last Prophet, it means t there is also a Last Apostle, a Last Evangelist, a Last Pastor and a Last Teacher.
