What will happen at the second coming? Cont.

Armageddon will occur toward the end of the tribulation and conclude, when Christ returns to destroy the wicked (Rev14: 19), to deliver His people and to inaugurate His messianic kingdom.

Note the following concerning this event. (1) The prophets of the OT prophesied the event (Deut32: 43; Jer 25:31; Joel3: 2,9-17; Zeph3: 8; Zech 14:2-5). (2) Satan and demons will gather together many nations under the direction of the antichrist in order to make war against God, His armies and His people, and to destroy Jerusalem (vv.13-14, 16; 17:14; 19:14,19; see also Ezek38-39, Zech14: 2). Although the focal point will be in the land of Israel, the event of Armageddon will involve the whole world (Jer25: 29-38). See Dan11: 45. Though the antichrist will prosper for a time, there will be further battles with another king of the north and another king of the south, culminating in the battle of Armageddon, where the antichrist will be finally defeated by the sword of Christ’s mouth (i.e., by His Word) and be thrown into the lake of fire (Rev19: 20). (3) Christ will return and supernaturally intervene to destroy the antichrist and his armies (Rev19: 19-21; Zech14: 1-5) and all who disobey the gospel (Ps110: 5; Isaiah66: 15-16; 2Thes1: 7-10). God will also send destruction an earthquake upon the whole world at this time (vv.18-19; Jer25: 29-33)

Sinful people will unite to fight against God in a final display of rebellion. Many are already united against Christ and His people—those who stand for truth, peace, justice, and morality. Your personal battle with evil foreshadows the great battle pictured here, where God will meet evil and destroy it once and for all. Be strong and courageous, as you battle against sin and evil: you are fighting on the winning side.

(10ii) The Judgment Of The Ungodly

Key Verses
“When I choose the proper time I will judge uprightly” (Ps75: 2)

“Therefore I said to you that you would die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” (Jn8: 24)

“He who believes in the Son has everlasting life, and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” (Jn3: 36)

“He who believes in Him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (Jn3: 18)

“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned.” (Mark16: 15,16)

“I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. 48He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.” (Jn12: 46,48)

“Nor is their salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts4: 12)

“For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is fully mixed, and He pours it out; surely its dregs shall all the wicked of the earth drain and drink down.” (Ps75:8)

The cup of wine represents God’s judgment, which is coming against the wicked. God will pour out His fury on His enemies, and they will be forced to drink it. Drinking the cup of God’s judgment is a picture used frequently in Scripture (Isaiah51: 17,22; Jeremiah25: 15; 49:12; Habakkuk2: 16; Revelation14: 10; 16:19; 18:6).
