Memory Verse: “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

Scripture: Matthew 3:1-12; John 3:1-13

Introduction

MAN is first and foremost a spirit, a spiritual being. The very essence of man is referred to as ‘The spirit man.’ The new birth is, therefore, a spiritual transformation. Who is the ‘NEW MAN’?

Genuine Repentance

Genuine repentance is a deeply felt regret for misdeeds, Mt. 21:28-32. This is so important that Christ taught and preached about it extensively, Mt. 4:17. God expressly commanded it, Acts 17:30. The signs of genuine repentance include: hatred for sin and a desire for holiness, godly sorrow for transgressions, Ps. 38:18, Lk. 18: 13, and a turning to God Almighty, Acts 26:18. This finally opens the door to God’s pardon and the blotting out of sin, Isa. 55:7, Acts 3:19.

Genuine Salvation

Genuine salvation is a total surrender to and acceptance of The Lord Jesus as Saviour. New birth is the creation of a new spirit in man by the Holy Spirit, Jn. 3:5-6. Every man born of a woman is born into sin, Job 25:4, Jer. 17:9. New birth translates us into the family of God. New birth is not subject to social status, education or wealth. Simply put, a sinner realises his fallen, decadent spiritual state, Rom. 3:23 that he will perish if he does not turn to Jesus Christ for remission of sin, Rom. 6:23. He somehow knows that he must receive Jesus Christ into his life as Lord and Saviour, Jn. 1:12, and calls on the Name of the Lord for his salvation, Rom. 10:13. A desire for righteous living and hatred for sin becomes evident to him and to all. Remember: The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord, I Jn. 2:29, 1 Jn. 3:9.

Conclusion

We pray that you will come to that realisation today, if you have not. It is not by works or by power, but by the Spirit of The Lord. For by strength shall no man prevail. It is by grace. It is done in faith. Please, do it now and start a new life in Christ Jesus. You will make heaven in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen!
