The general secretary of Assemblies of God, Nigeria, Rev. Godwin Akpan Amaowoh, at the 20th anniversary and transformational public lecture of the first love foundation of the church said that Nigeria has remained one of the poorest nations in the world, despite its abundant natural and human resources because of its perennial experience of bad leaders at all levels of governance.

According to him, bad leadership is responsible for the death of industries, poor quality education, high rate of unemployment, restiveness, insecurity, antisocial activities and brain-drain, stressing that the situation is the main cause of the nation’s quagmire of stagnation, poverty and corruption at all facets of life.

Rev. Amaowoh noted that the nation’s variation of democracy, which can best be described as “Democrazy,” is government of insane people, by insane people, and for insane people, adding that it lacked character, moral values and cannot produced the right leadership style for the youths to emulate or the right political culture that could take the nation beyond its present stand.

He called for the adoption of tupocracy, which he said is a veritable ally and underpin of pure and unadulterated democracy for a prosperous and peaceful society.

According to the cleric, tupocracy is a system of government that will bring people into governance based on integrity, transparency, patriotism and godly character.

Comparing the new system to already existing systems of governance, the Assemblies of God scribe revealed that tupocracy highlight character, ability the achieve set goals and image reflection, whereas other systems do not care about virtues, which is the main reason countries that are practicing them across the globe are challenged with social issues.

He said: “Tupocracy is meant to add moral value to governance. Nigeria’s democracy will continue to be branded as “democrazy” as long as it is charactised by corruption, lack of transparency in electoral processes, lack of integrity in mentorship and god-fatherism, which has produced thugs and ballot box snatchers instead of patriotic and responsible citizens, as well as lack of veritable role models to show positive example in all areas of life.”

On how to entrench the system into the nation’s politics, Amaowoh said this can be done through the nation’s tertiary institutions and bodies, including the Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (IPSS), Administrative Staff College (ASC), Institute of Democratic and Leadership Studies (IDLS), religious organisations and non-governmental organisations, among others.

He disclosed that tupocracy, if adopted will take the nation out of the woods

Rev. Amaowoh called on the cleric to promote positive political culture that will encourage transparency in governace and boost individual participation in politics, saying a situation where one has to depend on one god-father or the other to win elective positions in country is counterproductive and will lead the people nowhere.
