Lawmaker tasks government on abandoned Ohafia-Arochukwu Road

The House of Representatives member, representing Arochukwu/Ohafia constituency, Abia State, Chief Uko NKole has again urged the Federal Government to do the needful by reconstructing the Arochukwu-Ohafia federal road that has been neglected for over 20 years.

The road, awarded by the defunct Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), then under the chairmanship of Gen Muhammadu Buhari Retd, is at present in a dilapidated state.

During his inspection visit to the road last year, sequel to the cry of his constituents when gully erosion cut the road into two at a point, Nkole urged the president to probe the delayed execution of the said road contract.

The lawmaker, who addressed journalists at the weekend while formally commissioning his Constituency Office at Ebem Ohafia, said he was elated that his push and those of other lawmakers ensured that the road rehabilitation was accommodated in the 2016 budget.

He pleaded with the president to be a father to all Nigerians and not be guided by the pattern of voting during the 2015 presidential election from which he emerged as the president.

According to him, 70 per cent of his constituency of eight clans, threatened by eight major gully erosion are farmers, adding that on his own, he engaged the services of consultants to come up with panaceas to address the situation.

While speaking on the Umuahia-Bende-Ohafia road that cuts across three local government areas: Umuahia North, Bende and Ohafia, he disclosed that there is ongoing synergy to see what would be done, adding however, that following the contacts he made with the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), the road requires total rehabilitation and not palliative attention.
