Obeying your creator

When our father Moses was on Mount Sinai, he was given tablets of stones forged with fire by God, containing the 10 Commandments to regulate and govern the lives and activities of the Israelites. Like in any society, there are laws, which ensure every person lives within the confines of what is acceptable in that community.

While all the commandments are of vital importance in the relationship of any Christian with God, a keen look at the fourth Commandment; “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it Holy” (Exodus: 20-8) and a few others are the focus of this ministration.

The scriptures gave an account of how our God worked for six days to complete the work of creation and then rested on the seventh day to take in the beauty and admire the works of His hands. In light of this, He decreed that all Christians should follow suit. We are allowed to work for six days during the week, but the seventh day must be set aside to reference God, the One Who created us in the first place without, which we wouldn’t have been able to work.

Alas, many Christians have failed to recognise the sanctity of the Sabbath day. The importance has been misplaced and many have failed in their duty to keep it Holy. It is commonplace to see Christians schedule social gatherings, parties, family meetings, etc on the Sabbath day. Some Christians stay at home for mundane things like football matches, movies and the rest.

These behaviours are a blatant violation of God’s directives. A far cry from what is required of a genuine Christian. If God can be magnanimous enough to give us life and strength to pursue our personal business for six days in the week, then it shouldn’t be hard to appreciate Him on the seventh day.

An equally vital point of note is also “Punctuality” to the house of God and “Reverence” in the presence of God. Ye shall keep my Sabbaths, and reverence (respect) my sanctuary” (Leviticus 26:2). Just going to church is not good enough, but getting there early and showing total respect for the house of God and to God Himself is expected of a Christian at all times. “For the Lord is in the Holy temple, let all the earth keep silence before him” (Habakuk 2:20).

A vision was revealed to me where I was taken by the angels to a cathedral, so beautiful with all its heavenly splendor. Sadly, Christians were shut out by the angels who had the keys with them. I was deeply distraught. The spiritual connotation of this is that God is displeased with the indifference and nonchalance displayed by Christians during worship days. Many have become so proud that they treat the things of God with levity. Some have drifted away from their Maker, overwhelmed by various anxieties in their lives, ultimately leading to a strained relationship with God.

The good news, however, is that we can still fix things. Now is the time to do a complete appraisal of our lives, see where we have defaulted, and retrace our steps back to God. This is the time to ask for His mercy and to make a conscious attempt to change positively.
