Omo N’Oba sensitises Edo obas on evils of human trafficking

The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N, ‘Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolor, Oba Ewuare II

The Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, Oba of Benin has called on traditional rulers in the state to embark on public enlightenment in order to tackle the problem of human trafficking.

Oba Ewuare II, who made the call at the inaugural meeting of reconstituted Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, held at his Palace in Benin City, told the traditional rulers to educate their people on the dangers inherent in human trafficking.

The monarch, who is the council’s Chairman, called on parents to discourage their children from embarking on illegal migration and protect them from being trafficked.

The Oba urged youths to channel their energies toward such meaningful ventures as agriculture, skills acquisition and trade, rather than embarking on illegal migration and self-embraced slavery.

The Benin monarch also stressed the need for traditional rulers to join forces with government to tackle insecurity in the land, noting that insecurity would scare away investors from Edo State.

His Royal Majesty commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for his efforts at ensuring peace and security, and for attracting investors to the state.

Oba Ewuare II also told the council members that the welfare of traditional rulers in the state would be uppermost in the scheme of things. He urged them to support him to achieve much for the people.

The Omo N’Oba reminded them that the responsibilities bestowed on them were enormous, and sued for peace and one accord among traditional rulers. He thanked them for their support and solidarity.

In their separate remarks, Vice Chairmen of the Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chief, His Royal Highnesses, Aliru Momoh Ikelebe III, Otaru of Auchi and Zaiki Ehidiamen I, Onojie of Opoji, congratulated the Benin monarch for assuming the position and pledged their unflinching support and loyalty to the Oba.

They expressed confidence in the Omo N’Oba’s ability to steer the council’s leadership and take Edo State to an enviable height.
