The Methodist Diocese of Uyo Annual Convention christened, PEACE BE STILL – Mark 4:39 commenced on Sunday, December 2, 2018, with a carnival float along some major roads in Uyo with the Archbishop, The Most Rev. Chimezuo O. Nwankpa, his wife and other foot soldiers leading. The Diocesan Lay President, Elder (Mrs. Alice Eyamba, Ministers, youths, men and women joined the convoy to publicise the programme.

In the scriptures, there are eight sacred mountains thus:
• Mount Sinai and Horeb (Exodus 3:1)
• Mount Moriah (Gen. 22:2)
• Mount Zion (Psalm 48:2)
• Mount of Olives (Zech. 14:4; Matt. 24:3)
• Mount of Transfiguration (2 Peter 1:18; Matt, 17:5, 6)
• Mount of Calvary (Luke 23:33)
• Heavenly Mount Zion (Heb. 12:22; Rev. 14:1)
• Pre-Adanite Mountain of God out of which Lucifer was cast out (Ezek. 28:11-17)

Mount Sinai and Horeb as in the scripture are the same. Sinai is mentioned as a wilderness and a mountain 37 times (Exodus 19:1-23; Numb. 1:1, Gal. 4:24, 25).

Horeb is a sacred mountain, where God met and revealed Himself to Moses. In this convention Horeb, we are talking of a place of encounter, where destinies can be changed for good, as God did to Moses. A place where ill-luck can be changed; where sickness and the sick will receive healing, where God answers prayers; where those in bondage can be set free; a place of honour, power, anointing, covenant with God, and judgment of the wicked. These and many more will be made manifest by God at this Horeb Convention.

Beloved, the first day of the event, Monday, December 3, 2018 saw the welcome address by the host Archbishop, The Most Rev. Chimezuo O. N. Nwankpa. Later the host, Archbishop Nwankpa took his message from the book of Jonah 1: Here, there was a ship equipped and set to sail from Joppa to Tarshish. Suddenly, Jonah entered this ship, and the state of the ship changed negatively that the people faced turbulence. In life, as you plan for good and smooth sailing, the devil who has come to steal, killed and destroy may step in to negatively change the tide. The entrance of Jonah into the ship represents Satan and all his cohorts who are on evil assignment. Various people suffer from diverse ailments/sicknesses today: failures in career, businesses, economy, academics, miscarriages in various marriages, cultism, militancy and insurgencies have entered into our system and that has given rise to tempest.

Beloved, it is time to cast it out. The Bible says without faith, it is impossible to please God. “Whatever is tossing your ship of life with great tempest “be thou cast out of your life/affairs now” in Jesus Name.

Sing with me meditatively the hymn – SS & S 61

1. Master, the tempest is raging!
The billows are tossing high I
The sky is o’er-shadowed with blackness
No shelter or help is nigh:”
Carest Thou not that we perish? ”
How canst Thou lie asleep,
When each moment so madly is threatening
A grave in the angry deep?

The winds and the waves shall obey My will!
Peace! …Be stilt! . . .
Whether the wrath of the storm-tost sea.
Or demons, or men, or whatever it be,
No waters can swallow the ship where lies
The Master of ocean, and earth, and skies:
They all shall sweetly obey My will;
Peace! Be still! Peace! Be still!
They all shall sweetly obey My will;
Peace! Peace! Be still! ”
His Grace The Most Revd. Chimezuo O. N. Nwankpa, Archbishop of Uyo Archdiocese, Methodist Church Nigeria.
