Christians in Lagos State came out in their large numbers, last Sunday, to hold their first Sunday service and thank God after five months of lockdown, occasioned by the Coronavirus pandemic.

At the Old Ewu Road branch of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos, members observed the federal, state and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) guidelines on COVID-19.

The Guardian observed that at the entrance of the church, security men were armed with testing kits, such as thermometer and sanitiser. They tested worshippers’temperature before allowing them to enter. The church also provided water and soap for worshippers to wash their hands before they were ushered into the church auditorium. The sitting arrangement was such that only three people were allowed to sit on a pew and they avoided hugging one another.

Speaking on the theme, Heavenly Pattern for Godliness for Rapturable Saints, the church’s General Superintendent, Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, called on Christians to get ready for rapture and shun every ungodliness, anger and desire to oppress others. He said holiness is the key, without which no believer should think of heaven.

In his view, a good Christian is known by his/her behaviour, character and speech. He urged pastors and ministers of the gospel to lead by example in all things, so that members would follow and glorify God in their lives. He reminded children to obey their parents in all things.

He equally charged those working in offices, whether in government, companies, schools, and hospitals, to obey their bosses and masters.

Kumuyi said: “When you do this, you’re equally obeying God. We are doing it to honour God, so that the Will of God will be fulfilled. As servants faithfully serve their boss or master, they are showing good example, just as Christ left us with so many good examples to follow. We are not to steal employers’ time, tools, money or customers.

“People of the world may be unfaithful, but Christians are not to follow them in the way they do things. Rather, they are to show example for others to emulate. If you steal, you are giving place to the devil in your career. You are not there to bring others down because you want to occupy their position. Give your very best where you are. If God so raised you up, let your light so shine that others will glorify God. Christians should shine, be sincere in all things and let people see your good works.

“Make restitution where necessary. Have pure conscience toward God and men. In all we do in the family, church, company, school or hospital, have pure conscience. The church must return to its former position.”
