Revival in the valley of dry bones – Part 2
A Promise: Revivals are not man-made. Only God can give revivals. It comes from God’s breath. It is not a product of man nor can it be birthed by the church. It is not something we can just turn on or off at will. Therefore, there must be a promise. Not even God’s church, as much as He loves her, can force Him to give what He has not promised.
A Desire: God does not force revivals on unprepared and complacent people. He creates a desire and hunger for it so that He can now fill that hunger (Matthew 5:6). Hunger provokes God to a response. It is an unfailing tool in God’s hands. Whatever God wants to do, He creates a hunger for it. Therefore, hunger is a signal of God’s intentions in our lives.
A Provocation: Revivals are not birthed out of complacency. They are born when God’s children are provoked by the sin, the darkness and the deadness that surrounds them. God’s children must be able to say like Israel that “our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off” (Ezekiel 37:11). It is only then that God’s people are provoked to pray and seek to pay the price for a revival.
Labour – Revivals are the product of chemistry – Divine, and human. There is a God-ward part that God must do and there is a human input before any revival is birthed. God is always faithful. The problem has always been with a man.
God expects genuine repentance (Acts 3:19). There must be the breaking up of the fallow ground of our lives (Hosea 10:12). This talks about the heart’s state and condition.
The broken-down altar, on which many sinful and idolatrous sacrifices, have been offered in the past, must be repaired (1 Kings 18:30). There is the prayer input.
The Bible challenges us to “ask for rain in the times of the latter rain” (Zech. 10:1). It also involves spiritual warfare, as it happened in Elijah’s Mount Carmel showdown (1 Kings 18:21-24). The weapons of prophecy in the hands of the church have also been proved to be very effective in birthing a revival.
Ezekiel prophesied as he was commanded, which resulted in a revival. Prophesying is speaking anointed words from God’s heart. Such words cause a re-alignment and re-configuration of spiritual forces and make the spiritual climate conducive for a revival.
An Undoubting expectation – Remember the 120 in the upper room, waiting expectantly for the promise of the Father. When all other conditions are satisfied, it is the undoubting expectations of God’s people, who are holding on to the given promise that will make the revival break forth. Surely, our expectation shall not be cut off. Amen!
