Science Ambassadors Foundation holds science fair for female students

Female Students across schools in Nigeria have been called to embrace Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers, as a way to build communities, transform nations and solve complex problems in today’s world and in the future.

Science Ambassadors Foundation (SAF), gave this charge at this year’s Science Fair it organised in collaboration with the University of Lagos Faculty of Science for over 1000 female students across 50 schools in Lagos State.

Country Director, SAF, Nigeria, Mrs. Peace Nnabugwu, stressed the need for the growth of STEM in the country, adding that a critical analysis of the 10 most industrialised countries in the world shows the impact and importance of science and technology on their everyday life.

In his Keynote address, Group MD/CEO, Tri-continental Limited, Prof. Toyin Ashiru, urged participating schools and students to take STEM careers seriously.

He said: “We need to encourage the students to understand the merits of taking as many mathematics and science courses as possible, and those courses need to be taught by enthusiastic teachers using hands-on and minds-on activities.”
