SPAN, Mountain Dew, Access Bank, Others Support IDO Dance Battle

As part of its contribution to human development and skill acquisition, the Society for the Performing Arts in Nigeria (SPAN), in collaboration with other corporate sponsors, recently organised the fifth annual International Dance Organization (IDO) dubbed Street Dance Battle and Salsa Competition.

Hiphop group thrilling the fans with enthralling displays

As part of its contribution to human development and skill acquisition, the Society for the Performing Arts in Nigeria (SPAN), in collaboration with other corporate sponsors, recently organised the fifth annual International Dance Organization (IDO) dubbed Street Dance Battle and Salsa Competition.

The event, which was held at the Oceanview, Eko Hotel and Suites, showcased the best of talents and creativity in Lagos.

The large attendance could not hold their joy as they shouted, screamed and cheered the different dance groups, expressing their support.

It was thrilling and engaging as two set of judges – Ice Nweke, Mrs. Olufunmi Olajoyegbe, Buddy Agedah and lilian Yeri marked on the salsa contestants while Ohi Usadamen, Ukwalina Opuwari, Franc Okwara and Mrs. Jennifer had their eyes glued to the hip hop dancers.

In the hiphop category, F.F.D Reloaded clinched the trophy with first prize of N500,000 after going into tough contest with other nine groups.

Korede Oyerogba and Nneka Obiora won N300,000 and a trophy in the salsa category after a keenly contested battle in stages.

According to the Executive President, IDO Nigeria, Mr. Ice Nweke, “We try to bring dance education closer to communities with the Hiphop and Salsa dance competition, because the platform will develop creative talents and benefit youths extensively.
Many thanks to SPAN for giving young people unique opportunities to achieve big dreams and transform their experiences through dance”.

The IDO Street Dance Battle and Salsa Showdance Competition is powered by Mountain Dew, a popular carbonated drink made by PepsiCo. The drink comes in Cans and Pet bottles which contain carbonated water, sugar, citric acid, high fructose corn syrup, caffeine, concentrated orange juice, other natural flavors, and sodium benzoate for freshness.

Other notable sponsors of the dance competition are Access Bank Plc, SCOA, ITB Construction, Eko Hotels and Suites and Cool FM to mention a few.

Furthermore, the IDO’s mission is to harness the population size of Nigeria and create a vibrant community of highly skilled performers, where arts can be exploited and exported to the World through a well-structured medium.

The Organization will also create job opportunities for youths via dance classes and performance, provide training and education, while certifying Nigerian dancers for worldwide recognitions.

SPAN is a registered non-governmental organization founded in 2004 with the Helen O’Grady franchise in schools.

It offers different classes of training which ranges from Music to Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, Jazz, Creative Combo, Drama, Contemporary African, fitness, Naija Craze, Salsa and Latin Ballroom dance for beginners, intermediate and professionals.
