The word and prophecy – Part 4
The word activates the manifestation of prophecy. Daniel understood by the books and not by stories or gossips.
In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem. Daniel 9:2
A lack of understanding of the word makes a man desolate and oblivious of his day of visitation;
Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! But now they are hid from thine eyes…
And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation. Luke 19:42,44.
A lack of understanding or knowledge of their time brought them delays, affliction and untold hardship that Jesus had to weep over Jerusalem, because they did not know what they should know.
While in Egypt, the children of Israel did not understand the word of their prophecy and spent extra 30 years in Egypt.
And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; Genesis 15:13,Acts 7:6
But they spent four hundred and thirty years in Egypt because they did not understand the time of their visitation.
Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years. Exodus 12:40
For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not. Acts 7:25
At this time, Israel had spent there hundred and ninety years in Egypt. But Moses had to go into the wilderness for forty years, until Israel cried and God responded and sent Moses.
And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. Acts 7:30
Hold on to the word and you will not miss your day. All around the world, different life issues compete for our attention on a daily basis.
However, one thing that seems to have gained general attention is the accumulation and management of wealth. People strive for different goals in life, and are motivated by diverse forces. But a common goal is the expectation of a reward and sustainability of that reward at the end of all striving.
God also rewards man based on this principle;
“…and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him. Proverbs 12:14b
“..and the work of their hands brings them reward.” Proverbs 12:14b (NIV)
First, as individuals and as Christians, we may encounter challenges in managing our wealth. Even the best economies of the world at one time or the other have gone through difficulties in managing their resources and wealth. In fact, contemporary Global economic systems suggest fluctuations, probabilities, and instability, rather than security and stability.
“When the money of the people of Egypt and Canaan was gone, all Egypt came to Joseph and said, “Give us food. Why should we die before your eyes? Our money is all gone. ”Genesis 47:15
